Alec Baldwin may face new charges in connection with the death of Ukrainian cameraman

Actor Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin, the producer and lead actor in the western film Rust, may face new charges in connection with the death of Ukrainian cameraman Halyna Hutchins during filming. A New Mexico grand jury will soon decide whether Alec Baldwin will be prosecuted in connection with this tragic incident.

Special Prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis announced on 17 October: "After a thorough investigation over the past several months, new facts have come to light that we believe implicate Mr Baldwin in the death of Halyna Hutchins and the wounding of Joel Souza," NBC News reported .

Prosecutors have asked the jury to decide whether to proceed with the case against Baldwin. According to the TV channel's sources, prosecutors believe that the gun was not modified and found new evidence of Baldwin's negligence in relation to safety standards on the set.

Baldwin's lawyers, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, described the prosecutors' actions as an "unjustified prosecution".

If Alec Baldwin is found guilty by the court for the death of Halyna Hutchins, he could face up to 18 months in prison. The prosecutor's office plans to start the case within the next two months.

As a reminder, in August this year, forensic experts found that Baldwin could not have unknowingly pulled the trigger, which led to the accident on the set. The tragedy occurred on 21 October 2021 during a rehearsal when the actor accidentally fired a prop weapon that was loaded with a live ammunition.

However, Halyna's widower, Matthew Hutchins, and Alec Baldwin entered into a settlement agreement and agreed to complete filming without including the scene where the incident took place.
