A Long-Lived American Woman Known for Her Active Lifestyle Has Passed Away

Dorothy Hoffner and her instructor make a parachute jump

Dorothy Hoffner, a 104-year-old American woman, has passed away in her sleep. She recently made headlines with a parachute jump and was in contention to enter the world record book.

The news of her death came from a close friend, nurse Joe Conant, the Associated Press reports. According to him, Dorothy was found dead on Monday morning, 9 October, in the Brookdale Lake View retirement community. The woman left this world in her sleep on Sunday evening, 8 October.

Joe Conant said that he met Dorothy several years ago when he worked as a caregiver at the nursing home, and at her request, he called her "Grandma". He admired her amazing energy and clarity of mind, noting that she was always active and enthusiastic.

"She was tireless, she just kept going. She wasn't someone who would take a nap in the afternoon or not show up at an event. She was always there, present at every event," he said.

Only a week before her death, Dorothy and her instructor made a parachute jump in Illinois from an altitude of 4,100 meters. After landing, she said that "age is just a number" and expressed her desire to try a balloon ride.

It is worth noting that representatives of Guinness World Records are currently verifying her achievement and may recognize Dorothy as the oldest person in the world to ever skydive.
