Forecasts indicate that electric cars will account for 68% of sales in 2030

At an event dedicated to sustainable mobility, the president of the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA), Dan Vardie, made a bold statement on the evolution of the car market in Romania. According to him, by 2030, almost 70% of cars sold in the country could be purely electric.

Vardie presented a detailed matrix, indicating that 68% would be pure electric cars, 11% plug-in hybrids and the remaining 20% would consist of other types of vehicles. These projections were made ahead of crucial information on new decarbonization technologies, Agerpres  reports.

Of course, the current reality is different, with only 11% of electric cars registered in Romania, compared to the European average of 14-15%. However, Vardie believes that change is possible and could be accelerated by adjusting the eco-bonuses given for buying green cars.

"We are proposing that these eco-bonuses should aim for zero by 2023," said Vardie. While this target may seem audacious, the head of APIA pointed out that the trend towards abolishing these eco-bonuses is already underway in other European countries.

The Sustainable Mobility Forum, organized by APIA, brought together leaders from the automotive industry, representatives from the European Commission and the European Parliament, as well as government representatives, highlighting the importance of the transition to cleaner vehicles and sustainable technologies.
