Cristian Plută, sent to court for bribery
Prosecutors from the Romanian National Anticorruption Directorate have requested the confiscation of 192,335 lei
The former director of the Administration of Hospitals and Medical Services in Bucharest, Cristian Plută, who is in pre-trial detention, has been sentenced for taking bribes and allowing unauthorized persons access to non-public information in order to obtain undue benefits. Prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) have asked the court to order the extended confiscation of the sum of 192,335 lei from Cristian Plută, according to HotNews.
Plută, a former director general and deputy director of the Administration of Hospitals and Medical Services in Bucharest, is accused of taking bribes and allowing unauthorized persons access to confidential information in exchange for obtaining money, goods or other undue benefits.
In the same case, prosecutors have also indicted other persons involved. They include S.S., who is in pre-trial detention, accused of incitement to bribery, bribery, complicity in bribery and complicity in allowing access to confidential information. Two other persons, B.K.E. and Cristian Ion, have been remanded in custody for complicity in bribery and complicity in allowing access to confidential information.
The case was initiated by DNA prosecutors and concerns alleged corruption committed by Cristian Plută during his time in office. According to investigators, Plută allegedly received bribes to facilitate the execution of contracts between the institution he headed and two companies, while ensuring the timely payment of invoices.
Plută is also accused of having received money to support the appointment of a manager of a hospital in Bucharest. In return for his support, he allegedly received a sum of money and intervened to ensure that a certain set of specifications favored a certain company in a public tender.
Two other defendants, George Mirel Cristescu and D.A.P., admitted to offenses in the case by signing plea agreements. The sentence in this case is to be handed down by the Bucharest Court of Appeal.
