According to a survey conducted by Reveal Marketing Research, 57% of Romanians show a low willingness to consume sustainably, saying that they "occasionally" think about sustainability. However, the IT industry is perceived as the third most sustainable industry, after the energy industry and the food and drink industry.

Romanian consumers' attitudes to sustainability

  • Only 28% of respondents try to consume as sustainably as possible.
  • 85% show a passive attitude towards actions supporting the sustainability cause.
  • 48% are occasionally involved in sustainable activities, the most common being selective waste collection.
  • 15% are actively involved in various sustainable activities, with a higher prevalence among mature people without a partner.

Perception of sustainability of industries

The IT industry is considered the third most sustainable industry (25%), after the energy industry (34%) and the food and drink industry (27%).

However, more than half of Romanians (57%) show a low willingness to consume sustainably.

Sustainability issues reported by respondents

The major problems are air pollution, deforestation, pollution from waste, the quality of widely produced food and global warming.

72% believe that investing in technological innovation will bring solutions to sustainability problems.

Actions of companies with potential impact

The main actions likely to influence responsible consumption behavior include encouraging recycling (19%), educating the public by promoting sustainability (11%) and using eco-friendly packaging (10%).

The Reveal Marketing Research survey was conducted online from 17 to 25 October with a sample of 1,013 respondents, with a maximum error of +/-3.1% at a 95% confidence level.
