At the COP-28 conference in the United Arab Emirates, Romania made its mark on the energy future by signing up to the International Solar Alliance (ISA). Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja was accompanied by President Klaus Iohannis at this crucial moment for the sustainable development of the energy sector.

Romania, with a long tradition in the energy sector and a major solar potential, is firmly committed to support and promote solar energy as a main source of clean and sustainable energy. Joining the ISA is a decisive step towards achieving the UN's clean and sustainable energy goals by 2030, announce Ministry of Energy.

The event was marked by the signing of the pledge by the Minister of Energy and the President of Romania, symbolizing our country's firm intention to play an active role in the global transition to green energy.

Sebastian Burduja underlined the importance of this historic moment:

"The signing of Romania's accession to the ISA is a historic moment for our country and reaffirms our commitment to actively contribute to protecting the environment and combating climate change through the development of sustainable solar energy."

Romania is in European Zone B in terms of sunshine, with about 210 sunny days per year and the highest solar potential in south-eastern Europe. Studies have estimated Romania's technical solar potential at 19.35 GW, of which about 18.05 GW can be an economic investment option.

During his visit to Washington, Sebastian Burduja and his delegation will hold talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and other officials. Among the topics of discussion will be the development of joint economic projects, increased US investment in Romania and strengthened political and security support.

By signing the ISA, Romania assumes a leading role in promoting solar energy regionally and globally, with the opportunity to develop and implement innovative technological solutions to create a greener and more sustainable future.

The statements made by Romanian officials and international partners at this event reflect the will and determination to make the transition to a renewable energy society.
