An evocation of unity and progress

In a festive setting at the Cotroceni Palace, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis delivered a memorable speech on the occasion of National Day. The event brought together officials, politicians and citizens who came to celebrate together the 105th anniversary of the Great Union.

Unity, the key to progress:

In his opening speech, Iohannis stressed the importance of unity in Romanian society. He emphasized that National Day is a time to renew the spirit of solidarity and connect to the values that define the nation.

"1 December is the holiday that brings us Romanians together, wherever we are, reconnecting us to the spirit of our national unity. We celebrate it year after year, each time with the excitement of being part of a community where we feel at home, of vibrating, listening to the anthem and waving the flag at events across the country on this day", said the President.

Romania's achievements and the road to Europe:

Next, the Head of State highlighted Romania's progress in the 105 years since the Great Union. Membership of the European Union and NATO was highlighted as a major achievement, giving the country a respected place in the European family and solid security guarantees.

"We are respected members of the European Union, into which we wanted to integrate because Europe is our family. European values are also our values, European ideals are also our ideals", Iohannis stressed.

Challenges and reforms needed:

However, the President did not neglect the current challenges. He acknowledged that Romania faces multiple challenges, but urged further reforms in investment, health services, public administration and others.

"2024 will be a decisive year for what the future Romania will look like. This is because we will have European parliamentary elections, when we will nominate those who will hopefully make our voice heard in the European Union, we will have local elections, which determine the evolution of the communities in which we live, parliamentary elections, which will shape the governing majority, and presidential elections, which will show the choice of Romanians for the highest office in the state", the President warned.

Confidence in the future:

Despite the tense geopolitical context and recent crises, Klaus Iohannis stressed that Romania has managed to maintain economic stability and security for its citizens thanks to a stable and committed government.

The President concluded his speech with a call for responsibility and vigilance, urging Romanians to protect the nation's future and remain united in the face of future challenges.
