Infrastructure and emergency response project for the Romanian-Serbian area
The aim is to ensure the necessary investments for climate change adaptation
Adrian-Ioan Veștea, Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration, has signed a financing contract for a major infrastructure project in the Romanian-Serbian border region. The project, valued at EUR 9.5 million and funded by the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia 2021-2027 Programme, aims to improve the infrastructure and intervention capacity of emergency services.
The partnership for the implementation of this project includes the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of Romania, the Ministry of Interior of Serbia and the Territorial Inspectorate of Emergency Situations of Timiș. The project aims at improving civil protection systems and infrastructure, as well as providing them with specific equipment for risk and disaster management, reports ziuaconstanta.ro.
Planned activities include awareness-raising and information campaigns in the field of environment and emergency preparedness, including for children and young people, and training programmes for specialised staff. The aim is to ensure the necessary investments for climate change adaptation, disaster prevention and increasing resilience to risks in the Romanian-Serbian border area.
The Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia 2021-2027 programme, with a budget of €74.5 million, supports strategic, large infrastructure and other projects in areas such as environmental protection, climate change adaptation, health, education, tourism, culture and border management. The contracting process for other selected projects will continue in the coming period.
