Local police will be able to impose penalties on electric scooter riders
The decision belongs to the Chamber of Deputies
The Chamber of Deputies adopted on Wednesday a bill extending the powers of local police to impose penalties for traffic violations by electric scooter riders, along with pedestrians, cyclists and other traffic participants. The amendment to Article 7(1)(j) of Law 155/2010 provides that the local police may record traffic offenses and impose penalties for traffic irregularities committed by pedestrians, cyclists, moped riders, electric scooters and animal-drawn vehicles, according to Digi24. The bill also passed the Senate in May, and the decisive vote of the Chamber of Deputies means that it will now go to promulgation. This means that electric scooter riders can be penalized for failing to comply with traffic rules, thus helping to promote traffic safety.
