The House Committee onForeign Affairs of the U.S. Congress has endorsed a bill that utilizesconfiscated Russian assets to aid Ukraine. This was reported by Voice of America .
The documentauthorizes the Secretary of State of the United States to provide additionalassistance to Ukraine using assets confiscated from the Russian Central Bankand other sovereign assets of the Russian Federation. According to the bill,within 180 days of its enactment, the Secretary of State must provide anassessment of Ukraine's urgent needs in recovery, security assistance, andhumanitarian aid to the relevant Congressional committees.
Congressman MichaelMcCaul, a Republican, who brought the bill for consideration, emphasized thatthe bill also prevents the return of these assets to Russia until it compensatesUkraine.

Previously, Bloomberg reported that the European Union intends to tax the frozen assets ofthe Russian Central Bank. It was noted that the EU would seek political supportfor this idea among key "Group of Seven" countries.
