The average monthly income of Ukrainians has increased: how has the solvency of citizens changed?

The level of wages among Ukrainian citizens is changing significantly, according to Danylo Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy. According to the State Statistics Service, the average salary in the first quarter of 2023 (excluding the temporarily occupied territories) was UAH 15,436, and in the second quarter it was UAH 17,176. This brings the average monthly income in the first half of 2023 to UAH 16,306.

According to Getmantsev, compared to the first half of 2022, the nominal increase in the average salary was 15.1%. However, taking into account the inflation rate for this period, the actual growth was only 3.6%.

As for the sectors of the economy with the highest average monthly salaries:

  • information and telecommunications - UAH 36,544

  • financial and insurance activities - UAH 32,944;

  • air transport - UAH 28,177;

  • professional, scientific and technical activities - UAH 21,862;

  • public administration and defence; compulsory social insurance - UAH 20,506.

However, in US dollar terms at the official exchange rate, the average salary in the first half of 2023 was $446, which is $33 less than in the first half of 2021.
