Negotiations in education for pay rise
Unions propose at least 20% increase
Negotiations on wage increases in education have been held between education unions and government representatives, including Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and Education Minister Ligia Deca, Agerpres reports. Simion Hăncescu, president of the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education, said that salaries will increase from 1 January 2024, but the exact percentage is to be determined after negotiations.
Hăncescu said they want at least a 20% increase, but the final percentage depends on the outcome of the negotiations. Spiru Haret Federation leader Marius Nistor stressed the importance of including all categories of staff in the pay rise.
If negotiations fail, the unions said they would consider various forms of protest, including the possibility of a strike. A new meeting on education pay is scheduled for Monday at the Education Ministry.
