Changes in the leadership of the Border Police and Romanian Police
The decision follows managerial reviews and controls at the institution
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced several changes at the top of the Border Police and Romanian Police. The Inspector General of the Border Police, Victor Ștefan Ivașcu, has been relieved of his duties with his consent, and the Deputy Inspector General of the Border Police, Cornel Laurian Stoica, is taking over on an interim basis. The decision follows managerial reviews and controls at the institution.
The powers of the Deputy Inspector General in charge of border surveillance and the Deputy Inspector General in charge of administrative-logistical support have also been withdrawn, reports Digi24.
The Head of the Maramureș County Police Inspectorate has been dismissed and Chief Commissioner Constantin Ilea has been appointed Chief Inspector.
The Control Corps of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will carry out an inspection at the Sighetul Marmației Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police, including the Petea Border Crossing Point.
In parallel, an evaluation of the management of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police has been requested by 6 December 2023.
The decisions were taken in the context of recent events that have affected the rights of citizens and the credibility of the institutions within the MAI. The ministry's leadership stressed the importance of restoring a high level of managerial and professional efficiency.
