German Eurofighter fighters arrive in Romania for NATO Air Surveillance Mission
The German embassy in Bucharest confirmed their arrival
German Air Force Eurofighter fighter jets have arrived in Romania to support the reinforced Air Policing South (eAPS) air policing mission within NATO. This action underlines Germany's support for its ally Romania in airspace surveillance, reports news.ro.
On Wednesday afternoon, Eurofighter jets landed at the "Mihail Kogălniceanu" military base near Constanța in a gesture of solidarity with Romania. The German embassy in Bucharest confirmed their arrival, saying they were part of a contingent of 150 soldiers.
Starting on 27 November, four Eurofighter aircraft will become operational and contribute to the reinforcement of air defense on NATO's south-eastern flank. Before the start of the mission, NATO certification will be carried out, ensuring that the aircraft are ready for this important mission.
The German Ambassador in Bucharest, Peer Gebauer, underlined the importance of the collaboration between the two countries: "By participating again in the reinforced air policing mission Air Policing South with four Eurofighter fighter jets, we show that we stand by our ally Romania and work together to secure our allied territory. I thank our Romanian partners for their hospitality and excellent cooperation."
