Alstom is delivering inter-regional electric trains to improve rail services in the country.

The first inter-regional electric train purchased by Romania in 40 years, produced by Alstom, has successfully completed static tests at the Katowice plant in Poland. It is part of a contract for 37 electric trains for medium and long-distance passenger rail services, reports Agerpres

According to Railway Reform Authority chairman Stefan Roșeanu, the train will be delivered to the country next week and will travel 10,000 kilometers for authorization before entering service. The trains will connect the capital with the main urban centers, facilitating inter-regional connections. The total value of the contract is 2,421,771,878 lei, excluding VAT, financed by European funds and the state budget. Each train has six carriages, 350 seats, lowered floor, high-precision sensors, environmentally friendly toilets, and will improve mobility and travel time, according to statements by the president of ARF.
