Biden acknowledges that Russia is seeking to expand the war to Europe and then "take care of" the US

Military aid for Ukraine
The US invests in its own security
US President Joe Biden believes that there is a risk of the war spreading to Europe and the US, so it is important for Ukraine to help deter the aggressor

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, believes that during thecurrent wars in Europe and the Middle East, the world is at a turning pointwhere decisions will determine the direction for future generations. He alsoput Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and the Islamist terrorist group Hamas onthe same level.

The head of the White House wrote about this in an op-ed for The Washington Post.

"Both Putin and Hamas are competing to wipe a neighbouring democracyoff the map. Both Putin and Hamas hope to undermine broader regional stabilityand integration and capitalise on the disorder. America cannot and will notallow this to happen. It is in the interest of our national security and forthe good of the world," the US President said.

Joe Biden stressed that the United States is called upon to unite alliesand partners to confront aggressors and make progress towards a brighter, morepeaceful future. According to him, America assumes this "duty ofleadership", otherwise the risk of conflict may spread and the costs ofresolving it will only increase. He assured that "this convictionunderpins my approach to supporting the people of Ukraine as they continue todefend their freedom from the brutal war waged by Putin".

"From the experience of the two world wars of the last century, weknow that when aggression in Europe goes unanswered, the crisis does not fadeaway on its own. It directly involves America. That is why our support forUkraine today is an investment in our own security. It prevents a widerconflict tomorrow. We are keeping American troops out of this war by supportingthe brave Ukrainians who are defending their freedom and homeland. We areproviding them with weapons and economic assistance to stop Putin's quest forconquest before the conflict spreads further," the leader said.

Joe Biden also added that the US allies in Asia also support Ukraine andare ready to hold Putin accountable, as they understand that stability inEurope and the Indo-Pacific are inextricably linked.

As a reminder, on 3 November, the UnitedStates provided Ukraine with a new aid package totalling $425 million. Thepackage includes ammunition for NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems;ammunition for HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems; 155 mm and 105 mmartillery shells and other types of weapons. In particular, Ukraine willreceive additional laser-guided ammunition to combat unmanned aerial systems.

Further provision of military assistance to Ukraine is complicated byproblems with the approval of the US budget and the risk of a"shutdown" - the suspension of certain government agencies due tolack of funding.
