Mircea Geoană: The Republic of Moldova has a historic chance to join the EU and escape from the geographical curse
Moldova must escape from the geographical curse
At a conference in Iasi, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană stressed that the Republic of Moldova has a historic opportunity to join the European Union and thus escape what he called the "geographical curse". He highlighted the importance of Moldovan President Maia Sandu's EU integration project and expressed hope that European leaders will start accession procedures for Moldova and Ukraine at the next European Council.
According to Digi24, Geoană stressed the obvious choice for Moldovan citizens between Europe and a post-Soviet system, arguing that Maia Sandu's project to join the EU by 2030 is achievable, but not easy. The conference, which focused on "Economic security and innovation on the eastern flank of NATO and the EU", brought together representatives from academia, business and politics.
