Record EU wine production in 2022: 16.1 billion liters

Wine production in the European Union reached a record level in 2022, reaching 16.1 billion liters, according to data published by Eurostat. This significant increase of 19% compared to the previous year continues the upward trend started in 2010.
The three largest producing countries, Italy and Spain, each contributed almost 5.0 billion liters or 62% of total EU production, while France added 3.4 billion liters, representing 20%. Other significant contributors included Germany, Portugal, and Hungary, also contributed significantly to total production.
Italy emerged as the leading wine exporter in 2022, exporting 2.2 billion liters, representing 30% of total EU exports. Spain and France followed, contributing 29% and 19% of exports respectively, shows Eurostat data. EU exports of 7.2 billion liters went to various destinations, with almost half (44%) being shipped outside the EU. The main destinations included the United Kingdom, the United States, russia and Canada.
These figures signal a thriving European wine industry and sustained exports, reinforcing the EU's position as one of the world's largest wine producers and exporters.
