Energy Awareness in Romania Falls Short Despite Renewable Goals

A recent survey conducted by IZI data for the Embassy of Sustainability in Romania highlights Romanians' concerns and intentions regarding green energy consumption and investment. Although one in three Romanians express the intention to reduce their energy consumption and 25% have already invested in this direction, about half of the respondents do not know whether they use green energy at home or in the office.

According to the survey, 37% of respondents are keen on cutting their energy use, underscoring the significance of sustainable practices for everyday life and economic health during the Sustain Ability Talks—a series of discussions emphasizing eco-friendly transitions.

Virgiliu Ivan, Director of the National Energy Dispatcher, stresses the desire to attract investment in the industrial sector and stimulate economic growth. In the same context, they also discussed the need to increase the number of energy specialists, given the significant growth of this sector recently, reports paginadesustenabilitate.ro

The transition to sustainability is not only a concern for individual consumers, but also for companies, which are beginning to see the financial and environmental benefits of investing in green energy. Sergiu Bazarciuc, COO of Simtel Team, points out that many customers have moved from seeing green energy as an investment to seeing it as a sustainable business strategy.

At the same time, local authorities play a crucial role in stimulating local green energy production, and energy empowerment programs are becoming increasingly important for communities.

However, the study indicates that there is still a gap between society's awareness and the need to adopt sustainable energy practices. The debate goes on to highlight that monitoring energy consumption, digitizing the system, and collaboration between the private sector, public institutions and academia are key to sustainable development of the energy sector in Romania.
