Austria has earmarked millions of euros for this compensation fund

The Austrian government has taken a significant step to compensate gay people who have been victims of discrimination in the past. Justice Minister Alma Zadić has announced that a special fund will be set up to compensate these people, including those who have been prosecuted under the country's discriminatory laws. This initiative is part of efforts to redress historical injustices and provide recognition to victims.

Under the plan, those who have been investigated under discriminatory laws will receive compensation of €500. In the case of those who have been convicted, the amount can reach €3,000 or more. This measure aims to provide financial support and recognize the suffering and discrimination faced by members of the LGBTQ+ community during the period when homosexuality was criminalized, reports Digi24

At a press conference, the Minister of Justice stressed the importance of this initiative and formally acknowledged the injustice suffered by these people. She said that this compensation was a significant step in the reconciliation process and that the Austrian government was taking responsibility for its history.

Austria has earmarked millions of euros for this compensation fund, reflecting the authorities' commitment to remedy the discriminatory consequences of the past. This action is seen as an effort to bring justice and recognition to members of the LGBTQ+ community who have suffered unfairly as a result of past discriminatory policies.
