Raising the level of terrorist threat in EU countries

The Interagency Working Group on Counter-Terrorism in Slovenia has decided to raise the terrorist threat level from low to medium. This action was prompted by the deteriorating security situation in Europe and the Middle East, as well as by Islamist calls for terrorist acts.

According to the STA report, the Slovenian government announced this decision on October 19, 2023.

It should be noted that other EU countries, including Austria, have also raised the terrorist threat level. Earlier, it was announced that EU government ministers are planning to hold a joint meeting to improve security in the Union. This is necessary due to the recent terrorist attacks in France and Belgium. The conflict between Israel and Hamas has also caused a wave of outrage over a potential wave of migration.

The meeting of EU ministers on migration was the first since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas on October 7. Although no decisions are expected as a result of the meeting, ministers will exchange views on how events in the Middle East could potentially affect the mass migration of Palestinians to Europe, or serve as a pretext for violence within the EU.

It is known that pro-Palestinian demonstrations have recently taken place in several countries. The French government and other countries have banned these actions for security reasons and strengthened the protection of Jewish institutions.
