Peace talksbetween Ukraine and Russia are impossible now. This topic is favourable to theKremlin in order to accumulate forces and move to the next stage of the war.

This wasstated by the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council OleksiyDanilov in a commentary to Channel 24.

He recalledthat recently in the media there has been regular information that Westernpartners allegedly pressurise Kiev to start peace talks between Ukraine andRussia. Danilov explained such reports by the fact that the Kremlin very muchwants to sign peace agreements in order to accumulate forces and move on to thenext phase of the war.

Also, theNSDC secretary reminded that according to the decree of Volodymyr Zelenskyy of22 December 2021, only the president, the prime minister and the foreignminister can officially represent Ukraine's position in the foreign policyarena. All others were obliged by this decree to coordinate their activitieswith the Foreign Ministry in writing. He recalled this decree when commentingon statements by some former officials who try to create an impression ofUkraine's interest in such negotiations on behalf of Ukraine.

We shallremind you that on 4 November, the US TV channel NBC reported that the United States and theEuropean Union were allegedly discussing peace talks between Ukraine and theRussian Federation because "the conflict has reached an impasse".

In exchangefor the talks, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is being offered some NATOsecurity guarantees even without officially joining the alliance. It is claimedthat Ukraine likely has until the end of the year or a little more before"more urgent discussions on peace talks" begin.

Meanwhile, the USState Department denied the existence of talks withUkraine regarding any peace talks with Russia. It emphasised that anynegotiations are Ukraine's business.
