Ukraine risks losing its main donor of financial and military aid
The United States has spent 96% of the funds allocated for all directions of support to Ukraine.
During apress briefing in Washington, White House National Security Council'sCoordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, stated that the UnitedStates has spent approximately 96% of the funds allocated for all forms ofassistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict, including weaponsupplies. He mentioned, "If you consider all the funds, over $60 billion,that we've allocated for assistance to Ukraine since the start of the conflict,we've spent about 96%. This includes not only military aid but also financialand economic support and humanitarian aid."
Kirby alsoadded that the U.S. has spent over 90% of the funds specifically designated formilitary assistance to Ukraine. "Now, as we approach winter, the U.S.Department of Defense has about $1.1 billion left for assistance to Kyiv,"said the White House representative.
Challengeswith U.S. financial assistance to Ukraine
PresidentJoe Biden introduceda bill to Congress for $106 billion in financial assistance to partnercountries. The document includes the allocation of $61.3 billion for weaponsupplies to Ukraine and $14.3 billion for military aid to Israel. However, onNovember 2, the House of Representatives approved an alternative bill by newlyelected Speaker Mike Johnson, which only provides $14.3 billion in aid toIsrael without assistance to Ukraine.
The U.S.Senate, the upper house of the American legislature, vetoed the considerationof Johnson's bill. Democratic majority representatives emphasized theimportance of providing assistance not only to Israel but also to Ukraine.
Meanwhile,the heads of several U.S. government departments called on Congress toapprove additional budgetary support for Ukraine totaling $11.8 billion.
In earlyOctober, the head of the temporary investigative commission of the VerkhovnaRada on monitoring the receipt and use of weaponry, Alexandra Ustinova, noted thatif the U.S. does not approve additional financial assistance to Ukraine, theUkrainian Armed Forces will run out of weapons in about a month and a half.
