After a successful year, young tennis player Maria Sara Popa (18 years old, born July 29, 2005) has ended the current season in the Top 600 WTA, a feat that no other Romanian has achieved since 2016, at such a young age.

Furthermore, she continues to be among the twenty youngest players in the world, ranked in the Top 600 WTA.

Maria has competed in 3 finals on the ITF Pro circuit, winning one of them, in Brașov, and her most significant result came at the WTA 125 Țiriac Foundation Trophy tournament, where she successfully qualified for the main draw and reached the round of 16, losing to the 2012 French Open runner-up, Sara Errani.

Popa, who is a student at the "Mircea Eliade" Sports High School in Bucharest, was ranked number one in the Tennis Europe U14 rankings, in May 2019 and 9th in the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour Rankings in April 2022. Her coach is her father, Ioan Raul Popa.
