Collection of doubtful quality: how the Berlusconi family plans to handle the inheritance

Paintings from the collection of Silvio Berlusconi

After the death of Silvio Berlusconi , it was revealed that he had collected works of art, many of which were of questionable quality. The collection consists of 25,000 paintings of various genres, ranging from landscapes and depictions of Ancient Rome to more explicit works featuring nude women. The collection also includes a portrait of Silvio Berlusconi and a statue made of white marble, as well as historical portraits of Napoleon and views of St. Peter's Basilica.

According to information from The Telegraph, the billionaire's family is considering the possibility of keeping the best pieces and selling or even destroying the rest. The decision to part with the collection is primarily motivated by financial considerations, as the cost of renting the storage space amounts to approximately 800,000 euros per year. Additionally, the cost of disinfecting to eliminate wood worms that damage the frames of the paintings would exceed the value of the paintings themselves.

Cesare Lamponti, an art dealer who was well acquainted with Berlusconi, claims that the former prime minister purchased these paintings as a way to cope with the stress associated with his business and political affairs. Some of the works were gifted to his political friends and allies, including Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orban.

Currently, the Berlusconi collection is housed in a specially rented warehouse near Villa San Martino, his 18th-century residence near Milan. It is at this location where the infamous "bunga-bunga" parties were held, featuring girls and models performing stripteases and dancing around a statue of Priapus, the ancient god of fertility.

To recap, Silvio Berlusconi served as Italy's prime minister three times between 1994 and 2011 and was an influential figure in Italy for the past few decades. Berlusconi is known for his controversial statements regarding Ukraine, suggesting that Ukraine could engage in negotiations with Russia if it stopped supplying weapons.
