Undesirable neighbours in Parisian apartments: the French suffer from entomophobia
In Paris and other cities in France, there has been a recent surge in the number of bed bugs, causing concern among local residents and raising questions about the cleanliness and hygiene of the French capital. The heightened attention to this issue is due to the upcoming Olympic Games set to be held in Paris in 2024.
Experts attribute this rapid increase in the number of parasites to the fact that many people travel during the summer and may inadvertently transport bed bugs in their luggage, as reported by BBC Україна
According to reports from French and international media, the situation has sparked a wave of entomophobia (fear of insects). Locals believe that owning an apartment infested with bedbugs is akin to being an outcast, or even worse. Bed bugs feed on blood, inhabit bedding, and disrupt the sleep of residents by constantly biting them.
While stories of bed bugs appearing in cinemas and attacking passengers on trains have not been confirmed yet, authorities are taking this matter seriously. The Paris City Hall and the President's Office are calling for immediate action, as this problem poses a threat to the city's reputation in the lead-up to the upcoming Olympic Games.
