September 2023 has set a new record for the highest temperatures in the history of observations, both in Europe and around the world, surpassing the previous record set in 2020. This information was provided by the European environmental and security research program, Copernicus.
As reported by "European Pravda" with an average land temperature of 16.38°C, September was 0.5°C warmer than the previous September record in 2020. When comparing September 2023 to the average temperature data for September between 1850 and 1900, this year's September was 1.75°C warmer. In comparison to the average temperatures for September between 1991 and 2020, it was 0.9°C warmer.
"We have just experienced the most incredible September in terms of climate... We are entering a new climate era," commented Carlo Buontempo, the head of the climate change monitoring service.
Unusually high and scorching temperatures were observed on all continents. In Europe, a new continental record for September was documented, with temperatures exceeding 35°C in France, lasting to the beginning of October. The average temperature of the world's oceans reached 20.92°C, marking a September record and the highest reading since August 2023.
