According to a Sotomo institute survey, ahead of the parliamentary elections in Switzerland scheduled for Sunday, October 22, the far-right Swiss People's Party (SVP) is expected to strengthen its positions, while the "Green" party is likely to experience a significant drop in support.

According to the Sotomo research institute, compared to the 2019 elections where the Swiss Green Party unexpectedly achieved a high result due to increased voter attention to climate issues, this time they are projected to receive 9.7% of the votes, which is 3.5% less.

Ultra-right politicians in Switzerland, who currently constitute the largest party in both chambers of parliament, are expected to improve their results by 2.5 percentage points, receiving 28.1% of the votes.

According to the Sotomo survey, social democrats are also strengthening their position as the second most popular party with 18.3% of the votes, while liberals and centrists from the "Center" party are expected to each receive approximately 14% of the votes and compete for the third place.

Sunday's parliamentary elections are unlikely to have a significant impact on the Federal Council, the government of Switzerland, as the seven seats are distributed among four leading parties, limiting the potential for significant political changes.

However, the strengthening of the far-right's positions is likely to influence the government's rhetoric regarding migration issues, which the Swiss People's Party actively uses in their electoral campaign, and reduce the focus on climate change, according to analysts from the Sotomo institute.
