This marks the 8th Ballon d'Or of Messi's career, surpassing Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, who secured the 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.

The 36-year-old player played a crucial role in the Argentine national team, scoring 7 goals and providing 3 crucial assists during the World Cup in Qatar.

In the 2022/23 season, Messi netted 20 goals and offered 20 assists for Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions, helping the team secure the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup.

While spending the majority of his career at Barcelona, Messi currently plays for the American team, Inter Miami. He previously won the award for the world's best player in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, and 2021, followed by Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who claimed the Ballon d'Or five times (in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017).

Lionel Messi is the first player from a club outside of Europe to win this prestigious distinction. The illustrious trophy was presented to Messi by none other than David Beckham, one of the shareholders of Inter Miami.
